Ms Michelle Whelan
B.A. (Mod.Hons.Mus.), PGDip.Ed.Hons.Mus, Trinity College, Dublin.
My teaching philosophy centres around inclusivity and fun. Every child has an expressive side and the most enjoyable part of my job is bringing out their creativity and seeing their confidence grow as they engage with the subject and their peers. Not only can music education aid social development, it can also assist students in their other academic work and in every lesson I strive to bring out the best in my students, always with a sense of enjoyment. I have been lucky enough to travel extensively, performing in many renowned venues as well as working in such diverse areas as a Conservatory to a Kenyan slum as well as more recently in the Middle East. I am very much looking forward to my new position at ISM and it will be a privilege to live in such an historical city, which is so rich in the arts. When not singing and dancing with a ukulele in my class I can be found cheering on my beloved Ireland rugby team, watching as many sports as possible, running badly (and slowly) or taking orders from friends and family to knit some weird and wonderful creations.
